I guess that I will start by saying that living & working in Spain for 5 years, or the island of Mallorca, ( pronounced: Majorca) really changed my perception of life and how I look at it from that point on.

I moved to Palma de Mallorca in 1986/87 and moved then to Miami in 1991/92. Living and working in Mallorca was great!

I learned a LOT about people, the way of life, which was very different than working and living in Germany! Don’t sweat the small stuff…

 

  • Most of the locals who were born there, do NOT consider themselves to be part of Spain, but their own little country, which they prefer to be called Majorcinos! They also have their own dialect which is really NOT understood by the rest of Spain.
  • For example…Buenos días, which is Spanish and means Good morning, is in Majorcin: Bon dia. It’s basically a whole different world in Majorca.

 

I started to work when I moved there, which was 1986/87. I did my TARJETA DE RESIDENTE COMUNITARIO on my own. It took a lot of running around from one official Government office to another, but eventually, I got it for 5 years, and I did not have to spend money on a lawyer! This allowed me to LIVE and WORK in Majorca.Scan2019 08 04 133423

 

That reminds me of a JOKE about Lawyers…which my lawyer, Richard in Miami told me.

Let’s go back a little bit in time and talk about the ” Moving Company” that did my move from Germany to Palma.

In a SPECIAL EDITION and a separate post, I will write about all the other moving companies and/or moving issues in my life. Once its done, you will read about it by clicking HERE. ( which will be done by October 2019 )

  • So this particular moving company was called HUGO KLEMP. Please see the picture when the truck arrived at my house!
  • These were only PERSONAL belongings, like books, clothing, music equipment, and some minor small items.
  • All in all, it was not much, but I remember that I ended up at my lawyer Andreas in Munich, Germany, and not paying one German Mark to the moving company, due to their incompetence on their part! Believe it or not, they are still in business, for over 75 years now.
  • By the way, I had an overall BAD to a REALLY BAD experience with all moving companies! More about that is a special post, with the title:

One of the first things you have to do when you move to any country, or even only a new city, is to find a place to live.

 

This was fairly easy in 1986/87 since Palma de Mallorca was NOT JET that trendy and famous, so apartments were not hard to find, at least the “simple” ones, which had NO heating system, not any kind of amenities ( pool, parking, grocery store, etc.) that you did not even think about because I was just existed to GET MY OWN place. 🙂

Today, Palma de Mallorca is one of the most expensive places in Europa. Why? It’s simple, but please do your own research on this, since it really depends on the REASON, why you are moving. It would take way too long, to elaborate on this issue from my point of view, since the reason why I moved there, is probably very different from yours.

So, here is one of my first apartments. It was in Cala Mayor, which was only a few minutes by car or motorcycle from Palma, and its center.

The building was named Edificio IMPALA II. The rent at this time was 25,000 Pesetas, which is an equivalent of approx. 385 Euros today, but in reality, its “economic power value” is more like 600-800 Euros for today, so it was pretty expensive, but the VIEW was amazing, (trust me!) and I had a phone, which was a landline!

Have a look…But the view came with a price…no, not the 25,000 Ptas. It was the elevator…not really sure what I mean when I wrote this…LOL.

The apartment was on the 10th floor, so if I came home tired or drunk, ( reminds me of the US series “Two and a half men”) which was sometimes on the weekends, ( I was young What a View!and single…) and if the elevator was NOT working…climbing 10 floors was pretty exhausting.

Basically, you were sober again, when you arrived !!!

So here we are…it is Valentine’s day in 2022 and Palma de Mallorca has still a lot of charm.

My last personal visit was around 2007/2008 with one of my best friends, Marc.

We had a blast, to say the least!

These days or at least before the “C” hit us Cruiseships came to Mallorca, and it became a very busy port for cruises, just like Miami.

So at this point, I am still caught up with my move from Asia to Prague, and I just do not have the time to continue my blog on Living  &  working in Spain…

I apologize for that, and hope to be able to continue soon…which will be as soon as I get certain “issues” ( I dont want to call them problems…since EVERY problem bears a solution inside the problem, otherwise it would not be a problem…ups, issue!)

So PLEASE do come back to this blog, and do enjoy what I have already written…

    Than let me explain about the EFFORT that I put into this site and my blog. Its MY LIFE and what I have experienced and gone thru in the last, I would say 50 years, since I don’t really count the first 5 years of my life, because I cant remember that much.

    The amount of work is relative, since when I write, its not work, but something I enjoy doing and its fun! It comes from my heart and soul, so its not work, just the TIME that you have to put into it, is something that you have to “find” and have.
    Do I have any recommendations for new bloggers? Just one: Do write about YOUR personal passion. Something that YOU really enjoy doing and want to tell/help others…and write from your heart.
    Everything else will not work. Monetizing your site, will come at a later point in time.

      To your question: I’d have to say YES and NO.Once you get the hang of it, its not hard to do anything. So learning to create a website, just takes TIME and the passion for why you are doing it. The website has to be about your PASSION, what you love to do and write about, otherwise it will most likely fail.
