Prague- A Beautiful City

WELCOME! PRAGUE: a Beautiful City in the world. Or as the Czechs spell it “Praha”.

 

 

Let me start by giving you, the VISITOR in Prague one very useful link. This link is where to get a magazine, called PRAGUE RESIDENT, which comes out once a month, and gives you all kinds of very useful information about Restaurants and what is going on that month in Prague, which really is a beautiful city in the world.

Please do have a look and see where you can get it for FREE. Basically, every good Hotel in Prague should have it, but not all of course. All in all, there are over 1300 locations where to get one.

 

I already tried several of the following restaurants, and have to say that so far, I was not disappointed.

 

SOME of the really Good Fast Food Restaurants in Prague:

NEWSFLASH: As of February 09.2022 people are NO LONGER required to show any kind of certificate of vaccination, anywhere!! 

 

1. The BEST DONNER KEBAB that I have eaten in this city (so far-August 2019 and even in 2021) is called  ALI BABA KEBAB and is located in Prague 1, only minutes away from Metro Station ” Námesty Republiky” which is also near the mall called PALLADIUM. The street name is Na Poříčí 1918/11, 110 00 Nové Město.

 

 

 

 

Now here are some of the really Good Restaurants in Prague:

2. This restaurant, called MATYLDA is actually on a Boat and we celebrated our wedding anniversary there in 2020! We went back several times until we moved to Prague 6, so there we also discovered some amazing restaurants as well. Great food and good service, which is hard to find in Prague. It also has a hotel next to it, which I have not tried myself but I am sure it is super nice.

The restaurant is easy to find since it is in Prague 1, right on the river Vltava, and in German, it is the Moldau river. The address is Masarykovo nabrezi, 11000 Praha 1. Their phone is +420 724 800 100 and their website: botelmatylda. Their opening times back in 2021 were daily: 11 am til 11:30 pm. But please call them and check.

 

 

3. Another great restaurant in Prague 1 is PIZZA NUOVA. They really have great service (at least when I was there…) really good Pizza, but also other great food worth trying! A really nice salad bar. Plenty to choose from and prices are as most restaurants in Prague 1 are, expensive/moderate compared to outside of the city of Prague.

So a nice dinner for 2 will cost you about 1000 Kč, depending on how hungry you are. Compare that to restaurants of the same quality in New York or London, also Munich, etc. then it is cheap to go out for dinner in Prague. 4. Another “Good” restaurant compared to many bad ones in Prague 1, is the BEEF BAR. I did have my birthday dinner there and all in all, I would come back every so often, since the food was pretty good. Here is their website.

When I say” pretty good” then please understand that once you have spent as much time and money as I have gone out to eat, and you have eaten in places like PETER LUGER in New York or THE FORGE in Miami and so many many more all around the globe, you get very picky…so pretty good means GOOD FOOD at GOOD prices for me.

Service is a whole other world in Prague since waiters usually do not get TIPPS, so they kinda work like that. But every once in a while you will get great service in a restaurant in Prague!

 

Now let us now go a bit OUTSIDE of Prague 1:

5. This restaurant called U Tři Bojovniku is not too far from Prague 1 and is always packed since it has been there for more than 50 years. It is mostly locals who come here, but a few tourists who do not like the restaurants in Prague 1 also come here. So a reservation is almost a must, even during the week, especially after 6 pm.

The restaurant is in Praha 2. The address is Vysehhradska 17. Their phone is +420 724 970 002. Most of the waiters do speak English, and I always got what I ordered. Their website is as well in English and can be found here.

Prices are more than fair and portions are HUGE! So if you are not super hungry, one meal will be enough for two people when it comes to most of their meals on the menu.

One my favorite meat dishes was or is the 1400g Roasted pork knee with garlic and herbs served with mustard, grated horseradish with apples and bread. For 269 Kc it is a great deal and as I said it serves 2 people, no problem! The picture below shows the roasted pork knee. I and my wife could not finish it…:) maybe you can!

6. NOT just another restaurant is TOVARNA, which is my personal favorite! This place has good service and really good food! Especially the STEAK that I had was really one of the best steaks that I ever ate in my life. Unfortunately was this a “Special” and is not on the regular menu. The one on the regular menu I did try in Dec.2021 and it was good, but not like the one I had before.

Their burgers are among the best burgers I had in Prague so far since pretty much every restaurant serves burgers these days but many just can’t get it right! TOVARNA does it right.

It is also a very cozy place and when the weather gets warm the OUTSIDE seating area in the front and back are great! They also BREW their OWN BEER!!! So do try that! By the way, as long as its not raining even if it is 5 or 6 degrees people sit outside and YEP you guessed it: THEY DRINK BEER! Lots of it and sometimes they also eat something…

For this one, you will need to drive, but there is a train connection to this place. The address is Wilsonova 689 in 274 01 SLANY. Slany is about 20-30 minutes outside of Prague. It is a fairly small town, but they do have good restaurants there. When you arrive, you can not really miss them, since it is a huge massive building on a corner with their own brewery on site.

Their website is HERE, but it is only in Czech since outside of Prague most restaurants only have a Czech Menu. No worries they will make it work!
