Here I will write about my son and best Friend BLUE, a white Boxer!
Born in the USA, Miami, in Hialeah on Nov.10.1996
Died in Munich, Germany and went to heaven on June.05.2008
White Boxers are not only dogs, but they are companions, best friends, and their UN Conditional Love will give you so much in return that you can not possibly give it back. It’s the Character of a Boxer that makes him such a GREAT dog, especially if you have kids. No other dog will be so protective of ” Your” kids, if you decide to have some, then a Boxer.
I know that some of you will AGREE with me and some will of course DISAGREE.
Sure, there are other dogs that are protective of “your” Kids or family, no question, but If you ever had a Boxer, especially a white Boxer, since I believe that they are super special in their own very unique way, and I don’t just mean the color white than it is the only dog you would ever want again.
- First, I would start by saying, or better writing that pretty much ALL DOGS are beings that have EMOTIONS. They FEEL Love and Pain, and they will show you.
- Ever hear the saying: Every Mother finds her kid (dog-cat) the nicest/prettiest/best? Of course, you have. So no matter what breed you have, YOU will love that dog/cat in your own way and the JOY and LOVE is just wonderful!
- Dog owners are ( most of us) just, how would I put it? Different in a very special way! We Love our dogs like kids! They are no different from real kids ! The ONLY difference (that I can think of) is that most dogs will not live as long as children.
I remember some time ago, reading an article of a woman, at least I think it was a woman, since it’s more than 25 years ago, and she wrote and asked: WHAT is the DIFFERENCE between a DOG and a CHILD?
Her answer: The only difference is that the DOG will never answer you: FU.. you mom! TRUE or NOT?
Anybody and everybody who has or had kids AND dogs will understand that, maybe not agree with it completely, but certainly relate to it from time to time.
Let’s first talk about the “Myth” that White Boxers are Albinos.
Now that one I heard many times while walking Blue, mostly in Germany, were BREEDERS will kill all white puppies that are born. No Joke. And are white boxer dogs Albinos? Of course not. More on this from West Coast Boxer Rescue HERE.
I met a guy, while I was working in Germany, which was in the 80 ties and we actually worked in the same City, which was Bad Reichenhall. We hung out every so often, since the City at the time did not really have that many great Discos! The one that I can still remember was called FILOU.
A great place for food and to meet girls from Salzburg. My favorite City is right next door in Austria.
So we hung out, but eventually, he told me that his family in Germany was actually breeding Boxers, professionally and that the white ones are always immediately killed. They are supposed to have genetic defects! When boxers, no matter what color they have, give birth or are WHELPING, very often white ones are among st the brown and brindled ones!
- This is because Boxers were originally WHITE! Yep, believe it or not…but the brown ones were bred into the white color, not the other way around. So that’s were the white comes from, and that’s why in most countries you will always SEE white boxers, just like you will see brown and brindled ones.
Especially when I was living in Germany around 2001, and I brought Blue, I was stopped by the Police several times, because of an incident, that happened about one year ago in Hamburg, where a Pitbull bit & killed a small Turkish child. Of course, that’s bad, no question, but the person who had the Pitbull
had so many issues with the police already, and was not even allowed to even have ANY DOG, especially not a Pitbull, but he still did.
- So the problem was in reality the PERSON, a guy who was just an idiot, and probably trained the dog for dog fights!
- ONLY Humans are capable of horrible acts of VIOLENCE & CRUELTY, but also capable of amazing CREATIVITY and KINDNESS. I guess the balance of good and evil has to be maintained?
The Police in Germany, since they have NEVER seen a white Boxer, thought that Blue was a “KAMPFHUND” which translates to something like a FIGHTING DOG!
This by the way did not end here. I and my Ex-wife were harassed almost on a daily basis, while walking Blue, by all kinds of people, young and old. They told and sometimes even yelled at me/us to KILL him, DROWN him, or just get RID of him!
It took almost a year and eventually some threats from my side, like ” I Will Call The MEDIA and Tell Them That You Are RACISTS by yelling at my Ex-wife ( who at the time did not speak German)…this actually worked, and eventually, the “hood” knew that Blue was a really great dog and a white Boxer and not a fighting dog! One neighbor even started to also ask me, HOW is Blue today? He was all of a sudden the friendliest person.
So where did I find BLUE, or did he find me? Oh well, let’s just say we found each other!
It was in 1997 sometime in Jan., that me and my girlfriend Mara at the time, we’re looking for a dog.
Her dog, which was a 48Kg Rottweiler, died the year before on a cancer tumor in Miami. She wanted “Rambo” (Rambo was the coolest looking Rottweiler I have ever seen) to live with me since his life in New York was limited to the walks around the block where she lived, and in South Beach were a lot more dog-friendly things to do, so she brought him down to live with me on the beach since she was NEVER going to move from NYC.
Another post on her and a 9 almost 10-year long-distance relationship will follow…soon.
First I was looking at some Weimaraner puppies, which I found to be just these amazingly beautiful, and aesthetic dogs.
So we looked at some puppies, and even that they were really nice puppies ( ever see puppies that are ugly?…well not really) but I did not FEEL a connection between ME and these PUPPIES, so we moved on.
- We drove to Hialeah, where boxers, including white boxers, were being sold. That’s the 1st time I heard of WHITE Boxers and I wanted to see them!
As soon as we entered the home of this Cuban family, and saw them, BLUE just stuck out from this crowd! He was the white boxer puppy that had one BLUE Eye and one BROWN Eye, just like David Bowie had.
I was LOVE at first sight! And we took Blue home with us. I don’t remember what we paid since we had, or better I had found the ONE!
Let me tell you that the 1st night was…well like my daughter’s time when her teeth started coming. NO SLEEP at all! So me and white super cute puppy, (who was away from his brothers, sisters, and his mom for the 1st time, I do know that) had a TALK and I told him that I need to sleep and there are NO POOPS inside the house!
-
Guess what? He and me slept the whole night, and it only took him only about a week or less to even stop peeing inside on the newspaper that I put there! A true son. God, I MISS BLUE sooooo much!!
Not to get carried away by emotions, our JOURNEY has begun!
My girlfriend flew with him to New York, when he was about 6-7 months old, and he was…yep, bitten really bad by a Pitbull!
He survived, of course, but from that day forward just attacked pretty much every MALE Dog that got too close to him. Oh well, what can one do?
Cesar Milan was not jet around, and the internet was still not working that well to ask Google about it.
So I had this GREAT and WONDERFUL White Boxer that attacked only male dogs, and of course, they attacked him. Nothing serious ever happened to him or the other dogs!!!
I also drove from Miami to New York twice.
Why? Because I loved driving, and at this time internet was not jet what is today, where you just typed a question into a search engine and get 1 Million answers, so I knew that most Hotels did not accept dogs, especially any dogs. So I decided to drive 1286 miles, with no stopping, other than to eat or let Blue pee or give us both some leg activity… I believe it took me around 20 hours or so before we arrived in New York City.
- The worst part of this journey is the endless straight highways in Florida, where for endless miles you see absolutely nothing, other than a gas station or fast-food restaurant. Here you have The Best Pet-Friendly Hotels in Florida.
- It’s a BORING drive right up to the tip of Florida, Jacksonville. On one of my business trips, I stopped in Savannah, Georgia. WOW, that was amazing. So different from Florida.
- If you get a chance stop by and enjoy the SOULFOOD of Georgia.
From Georgia, the trip got more and more interesting. Pet-friendly Hotels in Georgia. Basically, there was just more to see! Since the 70 or in some parts 75 Miles per hour speed limit, was like torture if you drive a 525i BMW.
It was like standing still when you were going 75. So pretty much all the time, I was speeding.
Yep, sorry highway patrol, but a BMW is not made for these speed limits. My average speed was around 90-100. And YES they catch me speeding plenty of times, BUT I never got any points! This secret will be revealed in a separate post!
From Georgia, it’s a beautiful drive thru South Carolina and North Carolina. Once you get to Virginia, you almost made it.
Now, I-95 will take you thru cities like Richmond. When you pass thru Washington you can almost smell the Power, the History, and the Greed.
The swamp of Washington is no different from most Governments!
By the way, not to get into Politics at this point, but did you know what POLITICS means?
It’s a Greek word and It means: affairs of the cities, but I would actually change that to Affairs of the people!
Now, some really Funny stories about and with Blue!
The funniest is probably the one when I drove from New York back to Miami and as usual, I was speeding. What else is new?
So I am going around 90-100, Blue is sleeping and as I am looking out the window, I see a cop car right beside me. He is waving and telling me to pull over. Ups, I guess I was speeding? Yep. Well I do pull over of course, and I believe this was in either SC or NC, but I am not sure.
Anyway I pull over, Blue is still sleeping, and I come to a full stop. I see the police officer getting out of the vehicle, he was a huge black man, and he was approaching my car. Blue is still sleeping.
- As the police officer was at my window and I rolled up the window, Blue WOKE UP, Oh No! Now did I mention that Blue weighed 37 Kg?
- So he was not exactly huge, but pretty well build.
- As soon as Blue woke up and just sat there in his back seat, looking straight into the eyes of the police officer, the guy just went from “Hello Sir, did you know that you were speeding” to a state of SHOCK and his look on his face was that LOOK that I will never forget sheer FEAR, or should I say: PRICELESS!
- Sorry Mr. Police officer, but you just had to wake up Blue from his beauty sleep..ups! Sorry, no pictures for that…I WISH I had some…
What can I say? The officer just told me to slow down and be on my way. Wow, thanks Blue! Saved me from jet another ticket (which I would have not paid…there is a brilliant way you know).
Jet another one was in Miami Beach, in the alley where I used to walk him around a couple of blocks if I did not have the time.
So here I am walking him without a leash, Yes you might say, why did he not have a leash? Well because it was an alley, there was no, or minimal foot and car traffic there, so I did not put him on a leash, so he can run freely.
Well on this day the garbage truck came thru and so did the people who worked and picked up the garbage. When one of the guys saw Blue from at least half a mile away, he totally freaked out, JUMPED on top of a garbage bin, and started shouting something.
Because we were so far away, I did not even understand him…but it was apparent, as I got closer that he was afraid of Blue! I am sorry, but that guy was just so afraid of Blue, that it was kinda funny since I KNEW, Blue wouldn’t do anything to him, other than ignore him.
Blue was the kind of dog that did not understand people who ignored him! He just wanted your attention so you can pet him or talk to him or just give him a big smoochy on his adorable face!
There are plenty of other funny stories, but I guess we better come to an end here.
- By the way, do you wonder how I found his name? I actually briefly met another dog owner, who called her dog Blue, while I was walking him, and since I could not think of the ” Perfect “name, I thought, well that is a great name! So BLUE it was.
The last thing I want to say about Blue is that I hope he FORGIVES me, for NOT being there when he passed away!I was in Asia on a business trip for 3 weeks, when I got the phone call. I was devastated and did not understand WHY he could not wait for another week or two, so I could be there with and for him!
But my GUESS is that he just did not want me to suffer and see him pass on to a better place!
Blue died of old age, but mainly because of some Big Pharma Medication that I gave him!
Blue started to pee inside the house, and we went to the vet in Munich. The vet gave him the ONLY KNOWN medication for this “problem” which we all will face ourselves, (If we ever get to that age…).
I hesitated for several weeks, did my research on this DRUG, consulted 2 friends which were both in the medical field, and told me that this is the ONLY medication that exists.
I do not know WHY I gave it to him, because my GUT told me NOT TO! Jet I did! After 3-4 days the SIDE EFFECTS were so severe and horrible that I would have done anything to go back those 3-4 days and gave them to the VET, so she could take them herself since she never told me how severe these side effects would be!!!
- PLEASE do NOT GIVE your beloved DOG or any pet you might have ANY MEDICATION where YOU FEEL it’s WRONG!
- There are always alternatives out there! Just search for them, please!
- If you live in EUROPA, then please use this link, which will allow you to order in Europa, since CTFO and/or other US-based companies might have problems with customs, when sending from the US to Europa.
- These are products for your pet’s HEALTH, and yours too, since HUMANS and DOGS/Animals are very alike. Don’t you think? Thank you!
I wish you a wonderful JOURNEY my beloved son, friend: BLUE, I WILL see you again! Somewhere…and maybe that somewhere is the RAINBOW Bridge, which has its own Memorial Rainbow residency ( there is a yearly fee of $25)! See here.
- By the way, IF you wonder about the quality of the pictures then wonder no more, because in the mid ’90s Analog cameras were still used and it was not until the mid-2000s that DSLR cameras had largely replaced film cameras, so most of these pics I had to scan.

Hi, Tom.
I really enjoyed reading your article about Blue, and hope that your post might help stop the inhumane practice of killing them just because they are white. I know that it is true that boxer breeders used to kill the white ones, but can’t for the life of me understand why! I don’t know if it’s still as prevalent in the US as it was in the 60s when my aunt and uncle raised boxers.
When I was training my black lab for pet therapy certification, one of our instructors had FIVE white boxers that he had rescued so that they wouldn’t be put to death! He brought them with him to class, and they were so adorable, gentle, and loving.
I can certainly understand you still missing Blue, regardless of how long he has been gone. I lost my wonderful Raven in 2014, and still miss her every day.
Are you familiar with the Rainbow Bridge poem? The therapy dog group that certified Raven sent me a beautiful sympathy card when I lost her to cancer at age 14. The Rainbow Bridge was on their card, and it helped me a lot. If you’re not familiar with it, you might find it comforting to do a Google search and read about it. I have no doubt that Blue and Raven will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for us when the time comes for us to be reunited.
Hi Carol,
Thank you very much for your beautiful words about my Blue!
Why are they still killing white boxers?
Well that is the Million dollar question. Just like WHY DO PEOPLE still wage wars? Killing is just part of human nature, as we are still very much ANIMALS, and need a lot more time to evolve to creatures who treat animals and other people with dignity and respect!
I am not familiar with the Rainbow Bridge poem, but I will look for it!
My regards to Raven, and YES, they will be waiting for us!!!
We have a lot in common my friend,
You and Blue remind me of me and my Harvey. I hope they have found each other and are running free together!
They are a remarkable breed of dog and for me its just the facial expressions they give. They are so funny not to mention loving, placid and loyal!
I would have liked to have met him!
Hi Darren,
thanks for your GREAT comment!
Yes BLUE was a one of a kind, as are all our pets in our life’s!
Boxer’s certainly are the funniest dogs, and their expressions are unique. Very very LOVING and protective and just silly most of the time.
I actually found out, to WHY they are called boxers. One time blue and my ex waited for me at the airport.
When Blue saw me, he jumped and boxed me right in my face! My ear got nipped and was bleeding a little, but the JOY and HAPPINESS he showed me, was worth it !!
Thanks Blue
Thanks Darren, and I am sure that Harvey was special too!

Always glad to help people and anybody who reads my blog. I DID check out your site. Also very interesting, especially in these times, where students are basically clueless, IF their college education will ever pay off. I myself just went straight from high school to learn to be a Dental tech…which by the way also was NOT my carer path in the long run.
Good luck and all the best.
